History

My name is Jim Harris, and I started Concert Capture CDs in 1997 when I was the recording professional at Guitar Center in Arlington, Texas.  I had been doing independent multi-track recordings for several years prior to this time - dating all the way back to 1974 when I recorded my first High School band concert, using a reel-to-reel tape recorder and two electret condenser omni mics.

I had been active in bands and choirs all the way through my education, but as an adult I did not have a single recording of any music from my student days.  I feel keenly a sense of loss from this.  I wanted to help insure that today's school students would not suffer the sense of loss that I have felt over the years.

While at Guitar Center, I consulted with Jim Purdue, of Purdue Studios (Amarillo), about recording for schools as a business.  Purdue Studios, in the 1970-90s, was the studio of choice for recording school concerts in north Texas - New Mexico - Oklahoma, and it was the largest school-recording studio in the region west of the Mississippi.  Using Purdue's guidance - and gear purchased from Guitar Center, I contacted schools throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.  When Bill Eichenloff, Royce Coatney, and Steve Musser, with the Arlington schools, heard the quality of recordings that I was producing, they provided me with sufficient contacts that I soon left Guitar Center to pursue recording full-time.  In 2002, I added the ability to take the CD-quality concert recording and sync it with a videotape (DVD) of the performance.  In 2003, we added the ability to produce DVDs in 5.1 Surround Sound, and this is currently the fastest-growing part of CCCDs.  Due to high demand, our business began to emphasize All-Region, All-City, and larger High School organizations.  Our recordings have helped groups win several competitions, and they have seen air play as well.  In 2006, CCCDs was invited to join the Academy of Recording Artists, the people who award the Grammies each year.

In 2003, I moved the studio from Grand Prairie to Medina, Texas, between Kerrville and San Antonio.  I am currently building contacts in the Kerrville and San Antonio area, and I am adding a limited number of dates with larger bands, choirs, and orchestras as well as All-Region events throughout this area to add to the existing organizations for which I record.
